HBV facilitates HCC development by activating GP73 to repress the host's innate immune response. HBV induces GP73 overexpression in cells, inhibits NF-κB and its downstream signaling pathways, and inhibits the cellular innate immune response. The inhibition of the cellular innate immune response is conducive to HBV replication, leading to the loss of monitoring of abnormal hepatocytes, which eventually results in HBV-related hepatocarcinogenesis
